24/02/07 - Keswick 1s 6v2 Carlisle 3s
Carlisle's new third team travelled to Cockermouth for their first fixture,
against Keswick. With the average age of the starting 11, just 13 it was always
going to be a hard game for Carlisle given the older players in the Keswick
team. With the Keswick team playing every week in the Cumbria hockey
association's Sunday Association they dominated the early stages and soon took a
two goal lead. Mike Smith and James Ord in the centre of Carlisle's defence
began to organise the players in front of them and Keswick's assault on the
Carlisle goal was quelled for the time being.
As Carlisle began to find their own shape, Carl Richardson and Harry Grant
combined to release Greg Mossop who fired in a low shot to pull one back for
Carlisle. Keswick looked to regain the initiative but were thwarted by
Carlisle's goalkeeper Jamie Corson. Two quick fire goals from Keswick gave them
a flattering score line, but Dan Ward raced onto Greg Mossop's through ball to
pull one back for Carlisle, before Keswick scored a fifth just before half time.
In the second half Tom Airey began to get more involved in the game and Carlisle
looked stronger with Dan Ward pulling a shot just wide. Greg Mossop then had a
good chance for Carlisle before Keswick got their sixth.
A much improved Carlisle kept creating chances and Greg Mossop fired a high shot
past the defence only for the goal to be ruled out for dangerous play.

17/03/07 - Carlisle 3s 0v3 Keswick 1s
Carlisle's new third team continued to show their improvement this season as
they began to hold their own against their more experienced opposition.
After losing the previous game 6v2, Carlisle ensured they did not lose an early
goal with Jonny Brunskill clearing an early Keswick attack. Mike Smith was then
on hand to prevent a scoring opportunity with Greg Mossop picking up the
clearance and threading a good ball through the Keswick midfield for Harry Grant
to run on to forcing a desperate clearance.
Keswick were fortunate to take the lead as a misjudgement in the Carlisle D
meant a loose ball, which the Keswick striker picked up on and sent past the
advancing Jamie Corson. Carlisle struck back as Tom Airey then linked up with
Carl Richardson to set up Dan Ward in the D, who despite being surrounded by
Keswick defenders struck the ball on the reverse only to see it just go wide of
the post.
Greg Mossop's penalty corner strike was cleared and as Keswick looked to
increase their lead they started to force the play and made it two nil with a
fine individual effort.
With James Kelton having an excellent game at left back, Keswick's chances were
few and far between until the closing minutes saw them score a third.
